About this horse

$1,500 USD Disciplines: Broodmare Ugly Jo is a well-put-together, sound, and sturdy mare. She is not a riding prospect. The Good: • Correct, balanced build with clean legs and solid feet • Proven broodmare. Two healthy foals by live cover with uncomplicated births, excellent mother • Sound bodied, good mouth, vet-checked eyes — no signs of uveitis • UTD on teeth and vaccines (August 2025) • Easy keeper • Wears her hooves down as she should without trimming • Easy on fencing • Halter broke, trailer broke, picks up front feet (not rear yet) • Quiet to have around and very low-maintenance • Would make beautiful mules The Bad: Ugly Jo was untouched until age 10 and, despite a year of training, she remains unpredictable when put to work and unsafe to ride. She will saddle, lunge with things on her back, and pony calmly for hours — until she doesn’t. She has a history of snapping in half for no good reason with no warning. She cannot sit for any amount of time without becoming flinchy, tense, and dodgey and requiring completely sacked out again. She has flipped herself over and thrown herself to the ground while saddled and tied once in the past. If you value your time or dignity, she is not a riding project. She could be useful as a pack horse if youre willing to keep her worked consistently. Her two foals with previous owner reportedly turned out well. I don’t believe her behavior is genetic temperment — just a result of being unhandled for too long. I will keep chipping away at her until sold.
