About this horse

Disciplines: Competitive Trail Riding, Husband-Safe, Longe Line, Mountain Trail, No Vices, Ranch Work, Serviceably Sound, Trail Master, Trail Riding, Western Sundown, 2018 grade quarter horse gelding Discipline: Western, trail horse deluxe Sundown is full of great personality & work ethic. My best way to describe his personality is a 1200lb black lab. He’s the first one to run up to you to be caught in the pasture, will go on the trails all day and still be ready for round 2. He is the sweetest boy, and would thrive as someone’s #1 horse where he could be the center of attention. Loads/hauls/backs out well (can paw in the trailer), ties, stands for the farrier, perfect for the vet. Round pens and lunges well. Has been trained with all of the Clinton Anderson style fundamentals for groundwork. Light and responsive under saddle. While he can sit in the pasture for weeks and be saddled and rode with no fuss, he does do better the more consistently he’s out and exposed to things. He is young and definitely benefits from more mental stimulation. Even though he’s shorter, this horse has a heck of a stride and sets a strong pace at a walk, and has the get up and go when you want to ask for it. He wants to be out in front in groups. Generally lazier in the arena, but willing to go along with your shenanigans. He has been lightly exposed to cows, street traffic, small kids (can use more exposure, but not bothered by any of it). Moderate exposure to bikes and solo trail rides (unbothered). Significant exposure to dogs, chickens/geese, sheep/goats, deer & elk, small and large group trail rides (unbothered by all). He does fine with water crossing, but usually needs a reminder at the start of the season that he’s not going to drown. If he’s unsure about an object on trail you can ask him to move his feet, walk by it a few times to think about it and generally he learns it’s not scary and moves right along (not bombproof but very reasonable). Can pack around an inexperienced rider, but I do think he would best fit with a moderate-experienced level horseman/woman/youth to continue to build confidence and have a lasting relationship with. In summary, Sundown will be a great gelding for you if: - You want a solid trail companion - You love a horse with a lot of personality - You are ok with some light joint maintenance (hock injections) - You want a fast walking pace - You want a reliable, long-term partner - You are moderately experienced and willing to build his confidence in certain situations This horse will not be a good fit for you if: - You do not want to do any joint maintenance - You want a barefoot horse - You prefer a slower walker - You want to do speed events in the arena - You are a beginner rider or just getting into horses [contact info removed]
