Smudge

About this horse

$6,000 USD Disciplines: Trail Riding Smudge is 12 years old, 15.2, 1250 lbs, and is my trail riding buddy. I have taken him to South Dakota, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and all over Texas. He travels well. He is not spooky, crosses water, crosses bridges, crosses bison, and so far everything I have pointed him at. He has a really smooth trot and appears to be gaited in the trot. He neck reins, direct reins, and knows his leg cues. However, he is lazy and is more whoa than go. I tried him in drill but he didn't like speed or turning and burning. I do keep wedges on him because his is pigeon toed and the wedges keep him more sure footed, otherwise he is lazy with picking up his feet. The wedges keep him stepping heel to toe. Smudge is a people person, an in your pocket horse. 3 weeks ago on a trail ride we walked up on some kids getting out of school and he walked to the fence to let all of them touch his face. Even with strangers he wants attention. So if you don't want a super affectionate horse, he is not for you. I keep him on one scoop of platinum a day, if not he may get the runs when he leaves for a trailride. I think he has IBS...hehe The platinum does the trick and he hasn't had runs since I figured it out. Smudge is a big boy and too tall for me, I am 5'2" and want a short horse. My daughter taught him come to you when mounting with a kiss and a hand in the air, very helpful!
