Temperament & Management
The All-Rounder
Comfortable in the middle of everything, which is rarer than it sounds. Enough forward to stay honest, enough patience to wait for you. Not a specialist - a generalist. The kind of horse that makes a good program great, or a rough patch survivable.
About this horse
$8,500 USD NEGOTIABLE Disciplines: Advanced Rider Recommended, Competitive Trail Riding, Dressage, Endurance Riding “Gary” has been with me since 2019, I originally bought him as a personal horse to train, but he was never meant to be my horse and is looking for his person. After his purchase, my program changed, resulting in a farm expansion, full lesson program, and a lot less time for Gary. He has spent most of his life “on the back burner.” He has however been trained to lunge, long line, be ridden walk, trot, canter, ride in the indoor, and his favorite, ride outside, alone or with others. He IS NOT a finished horse and had this winter off (due to my time, not his). He is ready to be re-started and become your partner for many years. Temperament wise he is very sweet, curious (can be spooky), and prefers to be in a regular program. He is a dream to manage. An easy keeper, great with other horses, wonderful addition to a social herd of horses, easy to catch and lead, good for a farrier that goes slow, has been trailered, has traveled to new places for training, and generally is a great pet, which is one of the many reasons I have had such a hard time listing him for sale! He is so pretty in the field! While Gary is large with big bones, he would be best suited to a smaller rider with good saddle fit. He does have moderate lordosis (sway back) and has had this the entire time I have had him. It is important to work to develop his topline, but our veterinarian has cleared him for work with no concerns, and he hasn’t had any lameness, pain, or health issues associated with his back or otherwise. Gary has always been properly and regularly de-wormed, had yearly dentals and sheath cleanings, and been kept up to date with vaccinations (scheduled to be done April 17th). I do not need to sell Gary and am not in a rush. I love him and he has already hung out at our farm for too long without a job. A perfect match is a high priority. Located in Traverse City, MI with easy access to the airport and hotels to arrange to meet him.
