The Racehorse Brain
Brilliant, electric, and a lot. Everything is dialed up - the engine, the sensitivity, the opinions. Can be exceptional in the right partnership and genuinely difficult in the wrong one. Needs a rider who earns its trust, keeps their cool, and always has a plan.
About this horse
Sterling Canyon is a grey 2016 OTTB gelding. He is touch over 16h tall with smooth uphill gaits. He has a comfortable canter making it easy to find the jumps. He is a total push ride and very easy to get on the bit. He is not for beginners or timid riders as he can be a bit playful when he first picks up the canter/jumps and has had a spook at times. However, he is simple, pretty predictable, and with consistency it goes away. He’s very much the type that you have to laugh, give him a little kick, and get on with it. ... ( read more ) He makes up for his silly moments by genuinely trying really hard when you put him to work. He is a trainable type and a quick learner. Riders that grew up with cheeky ponies and have supportive trainers would think he’s a ton of fun. Sterling is still a touch green and needs guidance from the rider to continue his development. I would love to see him go into a structured program and watch him climb the levels. For the right trainer, he would make a nice addition to their lesson/leasing program. My teen working students love him and now they all want to ride him! He is currently jumping 2’3-2’6 courses and with more fitness he will be ready to move up! He has no known injuries or limitations. He has gone to several small jumper shows, cross country schoolings, and the Loch Moy x-derby. He is well suited for eventing, but could totally do pure show jumping/dressage or even dabble in hunters. He has been at my barn for several years and has a great personality, very friendly and curious. Typical boy who loves to explore the world with his mouth, but not a biter or mean spirited in anyway. He wants a person who will connect with him and enjoy his gooberish ways. Great for the farrier, he stands in cross ties in an open aisle by himself. Front shoes only. Easy keeper to feed and he goes out in a herd of geldings. Motivated seller as she already purchased her next horse. A good home a must!
