About this horse

$8,000 9 yr old Team Roping and Trail Horse for Sale Zans Model Oak “Oak” is a 2016 model 15.3h, 1300lb Big and Beautiful Bay Gelding Blood lines go back to Two Eyed Red Buck, Playgun, and Zan Parr Bar. I’ve been roping on Oak for the last 6 years. Mostly been used on the heading side but he’s also heeled some and done well. I’ve breakaway roped a couple dozen calves on him too. ... ( read more ) He’s quick enough and has a good stop. I noticed him acting a little sore roping last fall so I took him to a very reputable equine Vet. The X-rays showed early signs of navicular in his front right foot. Vet said you can keep roping on him for a few more years and give him an Equioxx before you rope. Vet also said the navicular is so early that he could definitely be used as a trail horse for many years to come. Never been injected and still not shoeing him for navicular yet so there are still some options. I haven’t ridden Oak since last October and I can take him to a roping tomorrow and give him bute beforehand and still be competitive heading or heeling. So my loss is your gain. I’m selling him as a trail horse, but he can still be roped on. We’ve trail rode Oak in several state parks in Indiana and Michigan. Short rides, long rides, week long riding trips, he’s been a good boy. Great going down the trail. Can be in front, middle, or back of the pack. Never raised a leg to kick anything. Can ride out alone or in a group, goes over logs, through brush and water, and across varied terrain. He’s pretty stout and can be ridden sun up to sun down. Stands good at the mounting block, is traffic safe, carries saddlebags. Oak is great in the trailer, backs out, ties, loves his bath time, and stands for farrier. He’s fairly easy to handle on the ground because he’s a big boy and we make him respect our space. He’s definitely the lowest in the pecking order of our 3. He’s normally easy to catch because he’s in your pocket and wants to be with you, he has to trust you. He’s more of a lover personality than some, but he’s not spoiled. Oaks been my wifes favorite trail horse for years and she’s a novice to intermediate rider. I would consider him watchy occasionally but he’s just gonna see the deer in the woods before you do, possibly pause a moment and then moves on with life. He’s the same as the rest of them, the more he gets rode the lower his head drops. My wife has ridden him hundreds of road and trail miles with no issues, he takes care of the rider. She rode him bareback several times as a 3yr old. My 5 yr old nephew rode him a few times as a 4 yr old. Oak has been a good boy for us and we know someone else can get as much enjoyment out of him as we have. The only reason I’m selling this horse is to make room for another young roping prospect because we’re more into roping mode right now than trail riding.
