The Competitor

Athletic, forward, and mentally steady enough to stay useful under pressure. Has the engine to move up and the brain to stay there - doesn't need babysitting in warm-up or convincing at the gate. Suited to riders who want to climb levels, not just maintain them.

About this horse

**update** - we have not had the time to ride him at all recently. Due to absolutely no fault of his. This is why he is for sale. We don’t have the time he deserves. Therefore his sale price is reduced now and we are accepting most offers. He is a great guy and it breaks our heart to let him go. Geppetto is a 7 year old, warmblood/thoroughbred, gelding. Stands 16.2hh and has more go than woah. This post will be brutally honest, but I’ll start with the good stuff. ... (read more ) He is the most honest, straight forward horse you’ll meet. He has absolutely no spook (seriously, a bomb can go off next to him and he would probably just stand there confused as to why the other horses are running). He does not refuse any obstacles and would probably live in water if he could. He trail rides by himself or in a group and has absolutely no kick or bite toward other horses, and doesn’t buck for any reason. Trailers easily, gets off at a new place like he’s home, and is just pretty chill no matter what. He has done cross country, hunter pace, and even team penning (winning 4th of 120 teams). You can rope off of him, drag logs, and pony other horses. He’s had kids on his back which doesn’t phase him. Now for his flaws. - [ ] He prefers a temperate climate and will occasionally lose weight in the summer. The vet has always said he looks to be in very good health and body condition. - [ ] He does not really like the farrier and also has difficulty keeping his shoes on. His feet prefer shoes because of the thoroughbred background and the amount of trail riding that we do. - [ ] Overall good conformation, however his front feet sit wide, creating an uneven wear pattern on his front hooves. This has never caused a lameness and he does not paddle. - [ ] He doesn’t have a lot of self preservation. Leading to some additional cuts and scraps or grass stains. Again never causing a lameness or inability to ride. Just some extra swat here and there. He does have an incredible sense of balance and agility however, as he will play in the field and never actually fall. - [ ] Finally he has a pretty decent gas pedal with less breaking power. An intermediate teen would easily be able to manage him, but would not recommend for a complete beginner. He rides in several different bit styles and prefers a leverage bit in the arena, but can ride in halter and lead on a trail. I put the flaws in because I don’t need to waste anyone’s time. He is located near Winchester, VA and he would need to go to a caring and loving home. I don’t see him thriving in a large lesson program because he tends to get attached to his people. Price is *very flexible* if he is going to a good home.
