About this horse

Thunder – 16.3hh Canadian Horse (Unregistered) 13 years old Price: x,xxx Priced to sell | Negotiable to the right home Thunder is a big, kind-hearted Canadian Horse with one of the sweetest and calmest temperaments I have ever known. Standing at 16.3 hands and approximately 1,550 lbs, he is very aware of his size and always respectful of personal space—never pushy, never rude, always trying to be “small. He is exceptionally brave and sensible: tarps, pool noodles, loud noises, even gunfire do not bother him. He carries himself with a low head and a soft demeanor, and he is equally comfortable riding alone or in a group (he prefers to be in front). He knows his way around an arena and has been ridden by both kids and adults. That said, Thunder is not suitable for a nervous or anxious beginner rider. While he is forgiving and kind, he is a large, powerful horse. If he becomes nervous, he can move quickly—his default reaction is to bolt, and he has bucked in the past. He is a horse, not a machine, and deserves a rider who is confident, balanced, and clear. He has a bump on his knee that is from an old injury (fluid behind the knee cap) and has been cleared by the vet. He would do best on Liquid vitamin E 10ccs as his maintenance. Thunder is a sensitive, intelligent soul who genuinely wants to please. Type A through and through, he strives for an A+ with extra credit and is deeply affected by his rider’s energy. Harsh methods, cowboying, or rigid German-style dressage techniques are not appropriate for him. He thrives with kindness, intention, and clarity and he is scared of disappointing his person. Under saddle, he moves out willingly, has a comfortable slow western jog, and is also happy to mosey along if that’s the mood of the day. He rides both English and Western, has previous dressage training, and absolutely loves liberty work—he works off intention and energy in a way that truly feels magical. Currently ridden in a bosal, but he also goes well in a bit. On the ground, Thunder is exceptional—one of the best I’ve ever owned. Unfortunately, due to my own health issues in the past and current financial strain, I need to downsize my program. I teach beginners and nervous riders, and while Thunder is wonderful, he is not the right fit for that role under saddle. He would be great for a therapy program where there’s always someone on ground he can look to. This decision is heartbreaking, but necessary. This is not a horse for window shopping or casual curiosity. I am devastated to list him, and finances are tight. He is priced to sell, and I am open to negotiation only for the right home where he will be understood, respected, and cherished. Only for sale as my husband has been out of work since October. He was supposed to be with me forever and I do feel I have let him down. Please reach out only if you are serious and experienced enough to appreciate the horse he is.
