About this horse

Ava is a sweet and people oriented mare who loves to work and could excel in many disciplines. -Three lovely gaits with good over track in the walk, beautiful swing in the trot and an uphill, balanced canter. Has been ridden on trails, through water and over obstacles. She is light off the aids, accepting of the contact and naturally forward. -Sound, barefoot with great feet, and has never had any lameness issues. Easy keeper. -All the normal good pony skills-easy to catch, ties, trailers, stands for the farrier/vet,etc. No vices on the ground or under saddle. UTD on vaccinations, teeth, Coggins. -Turned out with a mixed herd (including 2 donkeys and a mini) and is middle of hierarchy. Ava is a sensitive, forward, and occasionally spicy ride who would excel under the guidance of a confident rider. She would do well with and adult amateur or junior rider in a steady program with a trainer. She is not naughty (no rearing, bolting, or true bucking), but she is a big mover who occasionally spooks. If its cold and windy and she hasn't been ridden in a month- you can get on and ride her right off, but be prepared for some dolphin imitations when she picks up her canter. It is playful/energetic, not malicious. You can let her sit for months and climb on without fearing for your life, but she will be ready to go! She is ridden in a plain snaffle. Ava has been trail ridden regularly. She has only been hauled a few times, but has done well. She went to a hunter pace last fall and did great-she jumped several smaller cross country fences and banks while she was there. For the past 11 years, Ava has worked in our therapeutic riding program, primarily doing groundwork with at risk youth. We have had advanced beginners on her (solid at w/t, some experience at canter) and as long as they are a relaxed, confident personality type, they do fine with her. We would consider trading for a stout, quiet mare or gelding suitable for total beginners.
