Temperament & Management
The All-Rounder
Comfortable in the middle of everything, which is rarer than it sounds. Enough forward to stay honest, enough patience to wait for you. Not a specialist - a generalist. The kind of horse that makes a good program great, or a rough patch survivable.
About this horse
$2,500 USD NEGOTIABLE Disciplines: Advanced Rider Recommended, Bridle Horse, Hackamore Horse, Halter, Horsemanship, Intermediate Rider Recommended, Longe Line, Mountain Trail, Natural Horsemanship Training, Pack Carson is a 20-year-old registered Morgan gelding; his registered name is Adiel’s Sonny Boy. His American Morgan Horse Association number is:168,208. He was Foaled on 5/27/2005. We purchased him on 11/16/2011. We have owned him for 14 years. We understand he was gelded just before we bought him, so approximately at age 6. Since he was gelded at an older age he has a strong mind, but one that any good Horseman (gender neutral word) can safely handle. We know a young Horseman, and she is 15 or 16 years old, into Gymkhana, roping, and competing in rodeo events, and could confidently handle Carson in both arena and mountain trail situations. Needless to say, a more mature experienced Horseman should have no issues riding him. We do not recommend him for younger, inexperienced riders. He stands at 15 Hands and is a bay and currently weighs 930 pounds. His hooves are tough as nails. He is one of three Morgans that we still own, (just sold one last month), and keep on our 40-acre place. At 77, I still train, ride, and shoe my horses so I need to thin the herd a bit. We are also in the process of selling our ranch and moving, yet another reason we need to sell Carson, as we want him to go to a good home. There is a YouTube video of Carson at: [contact info removed] His ground work is excellent as you should have seen watching the sale video. You also saw him on trails in the Colorado mountains and high desert, with many different riders from moderate to experienced and being packed. He has excellent ground manners, is respectful, is a breeze to shoe from my training on him, stands Ground Tied in most situations (horses have the mental ability of a 3-year-old child, need to be corrected on occasion), is a good mover, is very loving once “he connects to you”, has never shown an inclination to either bite or kick, he will show he has his own mind on occasion but with skilled hands demonstrates an “Ok, boss, I’m in” willing attitude. He trailers very well, he stands without assistance to be shod and we can catch him anywhere in the field, arena, etc. He’s a great mountain horse with very sure footing, easily goes through creeks and up and down steep slopes. We have packed on him without a problem and he will hobble, bell if placed in a field to feed, and will Highline all night when needed. Morgans are also known for this comment: “It’s the horse that chooses you”. If you’re kind and respectful to him he will take to you very shortly. I always enjoy him when I come out to feed or let them into the fields as no matter which of the 5 gates leading into and out of our arena, he will always watch for which gate I’m heading to and meet me for his morning rubbing. He is well mannered. Get in touch for additional details.
