Quiet, Kind, and Gentle QH

$4,500 Skills: Dun Factor, Lesson, Trail, Trail Riding This solid and fun-sized 14hh, 10yr Red Dun QH gelding has a kind, quiet personality, and is looking for someone to bond with and let his personality blossom! He is already revealing some of his funny curiosity and gelding goofiness... he will try to share your drink with you... He LOVES the barn cat... He's fascinated by his own reflection in the arena mirror. And he will let you dress him up in funny costumes! I got "Dave" a few months ago, and he came from a trail riding background. ... ( read more ) I think he had been mostly used as a small/large group trail horse, and maybe had some time off before he came to me, because the poor guy was scared when he arrived to be touched by anyone! However, he responded great to ground work and bonded quickly, and now he will leave his friends and fresh grass ? in the field and walk over to put his head in the halter on his own! He is a safe and quiet horse, even when he was at his most nervous, he never offered any dangerous behavior, no bite, kick, rear, buck, bolt etc. Dave has a lot of great qualities, and a lot of potential, but needs a tune up and some consistent work to let him shine! ? Unfortunately, unexpected major financial issues that I have to manage for the foreseeable future force me to sell. My schedule is also not conducive to what he needs right now. Here is an honest assessment of Dave's strengths and areas to work on: Dave's Strengths: *Quiet, Kind, and Gentle. *Cute 14hh but solid, takes up some leg and has carried a 5'7" rider. *Sound, healthy, easy keeper, no maintenance, no limitations, PPE done in January w no issues found. *UTD on shots, vet care, and farrier. *Barefoot with great feet. *Good for vet and farrier. *Vet aged at 10yrs (he is grade). *Has recent tracings from a professional saddle fitter that can go with him. *Stands for grooming, tacking, at the mounting block. *Good with dogs, cats, and the hustle and bustle of a boarding barn. *Good in the herd, gets along with everyone, low man. *Trail experienced, will cross water and bridges. *Has tried hunting and did great with the hounds running around him and busy group of horses. *More whoah than go, but knows w/t/c. *An affectionate, bonded and funny personality just waiting to come out! Dave's Areas to Work On: *Perhaps because of time off, or maybe bc he was more of a group trail horse, Dave is nervous away from other horses. He needs some time and a good partner to learn he can seek his safety and confidence from his rider and not just other horses. He does bond really well though, so I think he can overcome his nervousness, but he is not there yet. *He was a trail horse, and needs to learn arena work. He doesn't know about staying on the rails, and was afraid of the indoor arena. Maybe had never been in one. He still needs to learn what is expected of arena work. He likes routine though, so I think he'll get there, but he needs work on this. *He has always been good for his farrier, but at first was stubborn for ME ? to pick up his feet. We worked through it, and now he will pick up all 4 for me. I think Dave would be a great trail horse for someone who likes to ride with others, or maybe he could even be a low level group lesson horse, as he does not seem to mind repetition and is happy following others. With a tune up and more work, I think he will get to the point he can be alone and be solid in the arena, and probably riding trail on his own as well. Because of all the CONCRETE ICE ❄️and snow we had (and now tornados??) So far personally I have only done ground work to build his confidence and move him from being a scared guy to an easy and happy to catch friendly guy, worked on picking up all his feet (for me), and now have started at the walk in the arena. I do though have recent video of him riding at the trot and out hunting from this past December, and can share. I got Dave for 6,500 but he needs more of a tune up than I expected when I got him, so I am asking 4,500 due to that, and I am open to reasonable offers as I need to sell. He's currently at an awesome boarding barn with ride-out to fantastic trails, and his new owner can keep him there and take over my spot, or move him.
