We started him under saddle as a 3 year-old during the summer of 2023, and he has been ridden rigorously by our guides since then. He's a big boy already standing at 18 hands. It's unlikely that he'll get any taller, but given that he's a draft horse, he may contine to fill out till he's 6 years old. You can ride him English, Western, or bareback. ... ( read more ) Frog is large enough that he can carry heavier riders up to 300 lbs. You may need a small ladder to get on this horse though. Just kidding. A 2-step or 3-step mounting block should be adequate to mount him. He loads very easily, and as you can see in the video on our website, he was ridden offsite at the Buckhorn Reservoir when he was just a 3 year-old. Frog is young and has his whole life ahead of him. He is safe to be ridden by teens and adults with some prior riding experience. See him ridden by one of our guides while doubling with a young child in one of photos of this post. In fact, Frog is one of my guides' favorite horses to ride. She chose him out of 48 horses to take offsite to ride. People always ask why we're selling our horses. There's nothing wrong with them. Quite the contrary. They're for sale because it's part of our business model: we buy, train, put lots of trail hours on them, and make them safe for beginners, and eventually we sell them at a profit to compensate us for all the training and trail hours we have put on them. We don't have to speculate as to what age or riding level a rider needs to be at in order to ride them. We KNOW because they've done it many times over. If we say a 6 year-old child with no riding experience can ride the horse, then they can - and have. And if we say we wouldn't put anyone younger than an inexperienced 10 year-old, then you shouldn't consider the horse for your 5 year-old to ride on their own.
