Gaited Kentucky Mountain Gelding
About this horse
$12,500 Skills: Endurance, Flaxen Mane, Natural Horsemanship Training, Ridden Western, Trail, Trail Riding Rusty is a 17 year old gaited Kentucky Mountain gelding. He does not have papers so I am selling as grade. This horse has been my personal horse for the last 7 years, and life changes are forcing a downsize. Rusty has done so much for me, and I am in no rush to sell him as I will keep him if I can’t find him the right situation. He is a gentle soul, and don’t let his age fool you, he looks and acts as if he’s still 10! In the barn, he is everyone’s favorite and I’ve often said that Rusty could care less about horses because humans are his favorite species. He loads and hauls extremely easy, stands for the farrier perfectly, and will stand straight tied or on cross ties for hours if you let him. Under saddle, he is very forward as he is gaited and he is the type of horse that will go ALL day without wanting to stop even if he gets tired. He has been on miles and miles of trails, through all sorts of terrain, through water, across bridges, you name it. The only reason I do not recommend a beginner for him is because he does have a motor and he needs a steady and firm set of hands. He has never offered to buck, rear or bolt. I have him shod on all 4 feet but he could easily go barefoot. He is on no maintenance schedule, meds, or supplements, and is a very easy keeper. He loves hay and isn’t picky. His only vice is that he weaves. In unfamiliar and stressful situations, he’ll weave more than usual. Once settled, in a routine, with no stress, you won’t see him weave. He does tend to weave around feed time. His weaving has never affected any of his abilities to ride or be a horse… I simply just ignore it’s happening. He is middle to high in the pecking order but does fine when turned out with other dominant geldings. When out with less dominant horses, he will rule the herd, but won’t ever kick. I have hundreds of videos and photos of him, if interested please reach out to come meet him as I will not sell sight unseen.
